Interested in observing what really goes on in healthcare? Consider one of our many programs that allow the opportunity to take a closer look at healthcare professionals at work.

VOLUNTEERING

If you are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare but are not sure of where your interest might lie, and are not in need of observation hours, then the Volunteer Department might be the place to start. Volunteering 4 hours a week will allow you the opportunity to work in various departments throughout our hospital. To find out more about volunteering, please look to our volunteer page for more information.

OBSERVATIONS

Department observations are done based upon department availability and must be for a total of 24 hours minimum to 40 hours maximum and can be no longer than 30 days from start of observation to be considered for the observation opening. Please note that observations are only allowed for those 18 years of age or older. Please fill out the Medical Observation/Intern application, provide all required information to be considered for a Medical Observation opening and please send to Observers@bhset.net. If chosen for a Medical Observation opening, a $25 fee must be paid at the start of the observation and you will need to complete the linked powerpoint below before starting.

GEAR Powerpoint

For students younger than 18, we have a summer student volunteer program that you can apply for, and you will be considered for placement in the department of your interest. Please see the volunteer page for more information.

INTERNS

Internships are offered through affiliated schools. To be considered for an internship, check to see if your school has an affiliation agreement with Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas through our Education Department. Once you have determined there is an affiliation agreement, fill out the Medical Observation/Intern application, provide all required information to be considered for an Intern opening and please send to Observers@bhset.net. After being chosen for internship, you will need to complete the linked powerpoint below before starting. Note that internships are unpaid. MEDICAL OBSERVERS

For Physician observation, you must find a physician willing to allow observation. Once you have a Physician who has agreed to allow observation, you must provide a letter form the Physician stating they are allowing the observation along with the completed Medical Observation form and other required documentation before the observation can commence. Note Physicians must have privileges with Baptist for observation to take place. Physician information can be found on our website BHSET.net.

Please note this is not for the Baptist Residency Program. If you want information on our Residency Program, please visit bhsetresidency.org.
