Baptist Beaumont Hospital and CHRISTUS Hospital-St. Elizabeth have coordinated response plans for the medical community during a mandatory evacuation for hurricane.

The following specialties were identified as key with ER Call participation required during the hurricane for emergency services.

  • Cardiology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Internal Medicine
  • Nephrology
  • Pulmonology
  • Hospitalists
  • Pediatrics

Surgical Specialties

  • Anesthesia
  • OB/GYN
  • Orthopedics
  • Cardiovascular / Thoracic
  • General Surgery
  • Neurosurgery

Other

With input from the medical staff sections, a two-shift system was established by these specialties to address unassigned patients who may present to the hospital’s Emergency Room.

Team A – “ride out” team. Day 1 and 2 of hurricane.

Physician on pre- assigned ER Call on Day 1 of hurricane will take 2 days of call at one facility (Baptist Beaumont or St. Elizabeth) – Physician on ER Call on day 2 of hurricane will take those 2 days of call at the other facility. Days are designated as 7am – 7am. For instance: Dr. S is on pre-assigned ER call day 1, Dr. S will take two days of call at St. Elizabeth. Dr. T is on pre-assigned ER call day 2 will take two days of call at Baptist.

  • this pertains to ER admissions only – not current inpatients
  • these two physicians will be considered exempt from next rotation period on the regular ER Call schedule

Team B – relieves team A and covers Days 3 & 4

Please note, the hospital will attempt to provide housing accommodations for the medical staff members that have patient care responsibilities during these times indicated above.
