Team Approaches to Communication Difficulties
At Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, our Speech-Language Pathology department is staffed with ASHA-certified and state-licensed therapists who help those who experience difficulty with communication skills. We see patients during inpatient stays as well as on an outpatient basis to facilitate improvement in performing daily activities again.
Our staff is trained to work with patients of all ages, including children who may be experiencing difficulty with articulation, reading and writing, language skills, or swallowing.
A Speech-Language Pathologist is trained to work with patients with the following diagnoses:
- Stroke
- Head Injury
- Head and Neck Cancer
- Dementia
- Neurodegenerative Disease
- Voice Disorder
- Articulation Disorder
- Language Disorder
- Stuttering
- Autism/PDD
Condition-Specific Approaches
We provide treatment for patients with aphasia, swallowing disorders, language/speech delay or disorder, dysarthria, and alternative/augmentative communication skills.
